about

Mercury Counter is an electronic album inspired by the 1950 film "D.O.A." In it, Frank Bigelow, a small-town accountant, is poisoned on a trip to San Francisco and spends his final days tracking down who killed him and why. This early American noir film was sold as "a picture as excitingly different as its title," and that was my goal in reimagining this story.

By reimagining D.O.A. as a futuristic tale of revenge, Mercury Counter follows Bigelow from poisoning to mutation to revenge and to his ultimate fate. With a distinct mix of electro, hip-hop, and downtempo beats, Mercury Counter rebuilds San Francisco and Los Angeles in a dazzling veneer of floating cars, mutant dive bars, and hazy slums hiding a sinister murder conspiracy. Mercury Counter also contains samples from the original D.O.A. movie, which has since entered the public domain.
